Walmart Layaway
In a Georgia Walmart, Shaquille O’Neil, a retired NBA basketball player, walked into the store and paid off the entire store's layaway accounts, covering over $20,000 worth of items for families just before Christmas.
It seems fairly apparent to us that generosity is esteemed universally. Where does this appreciation and respect for this quality stem from? How is it that these actions are known to be something of love and kindness to another? It is one of the aspects of “eternity in our hearts,” a realization that being generous is part of our original nature when we were created, something of the very quality of our Father God. He is the most generous and grace-giving agent on the planet.
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the LORD God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. Gen. 2:21,22
Here we find early on in the history of mankind that God is revealing the art and joy of generosity. He takes a rib from the side of Adam, the man, and makes something much more valuable. God may require some kind of gift from us on our part and yielded to him. But is it really giving up something, since he already owns everything? What is returned to us is something of beauty, blessing, so vastly superior or meaningful than what which we surrendered. Adam gave up a rib. He received a friend, helpmate, soul mate, lover, wonderful companion and mother of their children in return. God is always generous. His nature and character are those of a multiplier and enhancer. Generosity is how he operates in all matters, not just in regard to monetary things, but with life, our future, giftedness, fruit of the spirit, friendships, and more.
