Chew It Up!

May 4, 2025

According to ancient Hebrew language word pictures, the definition for the word “humble” is two words, or two images combined. The first Hebrew word is Shin, which represents two front teeth and can mean sharp, eat, consume or destroy. The second is Chet which depicts a fence or wall that will divide, protect, or make private the inside from the outside. Combine these two-word pictures together for the word “humble” and you have the idea that humility chews up or destroys walls, fences, any point of separation.

An offense, injury or insult happens in our lives through events, relationships, friendships, family and even the church. If an offense is not dealt with quickly and is allowed to remain, it leads to holding a grudge and results in bitterness, resentment and negativity. Recent studies of the brain show that once bitterness and negative thoughts are active in the mind, one develops pathways for additional negative thoughts to pile on, like a scratch on an old LP record. This recent science is just proving what the heart of our Father God has related to us for thousands of years.

Ephesians 4:7 - Don’t let a day go with anger and resentment in your heart and mind. Deal with these offenses quickly, or you give the accuser of your life access to bring you greater harm.

So with humility and honesty we have the power needed to “destroy any fence” that would separate us from a spouse, family member or church friend. Choose to knock down the offenses you have or will have. Don’t manage your “fences.” Destroy them through chewing them up with a humble heart and an obedient will.
