2 More Sleeps

My wife Jenny and our kids and now the grandchildren have had a fun tradition when anticipating an event coming up on the calendar. Let’s say we are planning to go see them for Thanksgiving. The text messages will start flying back and forth about 2 weeks before the event, that there are only 12 more sleeps until we see each other. This countdown continues with growing enthusiasm. It’s 10, then 8,7, 6… more sleeps. There’s an excitement of what is coming around the corner and an understanding of what needs to get done to completely enjoy the upcoming gathering. 

Followers of Jesus live in this same tension. We have an assurance of our salvation and grace extended to us presently, and then we have an expectation and longing for what is to come. Our hearts yearn for more of him and to be completely home. We are at rest and with Christ today, but someday we will see him and enjoy the beauty of seeing him face to face and changed to be like him.

And he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us. 2 Cor.1:22

We have received the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and this is just the first lay-away payment that signifies that we will receive all the promises that God has in store. Let this wonderful promise bring great comfort and peace to your heart and journey. Let the Holy Spirit deposit, as a gift, be appreciated as his constant daily strength, but also recognize that He has placed himself as a guarantee in your life, and you will be brought to eternal completion.
